Tippet-Richardson was founded in 1927 by Basil Tippet and C.A. Richardson. Their primary goal was to provide quality residential, commercial, and speciality relocation services in Toronto. We proudly continue that tradition today. We are Canada’s oldest and most established privately owned, non-franchised moving and storage company.

We started as a small company, with only a rented-warehouse and one van, but have since grown to be one of the largest moving companies in Canada. Today, we have 400 staff across the country and branches in London, Kitchener, Ottawa and Montreal. From our Toronto offices, which are home to 160 employees, we can serve people across the GTA, including Pickering, Mississauga, Brampton, Vaughan, Burlington, and anywhere in between.

Tippet-Richardson Limited has been a part of Canadian history in Southern Ontario since 1927. The company began its work with a van and a rented warehouse in Toronto. At the time, there were no national highways that connected Ontario to Western Canada. So, in order to provide their clients with quality residential and commercial relocation, Tippet-Richardson movers often found themselves driving back and forth through the United States.
The business quickly took off and, by 1929, had become the Canadian agent of Allied Vans Lines Limited (Canada). This relationship allowed us to expand our client base to several American states.
In 1934, the founding partners went their own ways. Basil Tippet acquired his partner’s share of the company. It was the beginning of a new and exciting time for the moving company. In 1947, the TransCanada Highway was opened and Tippet-Richardson movers were amongst the first to brave the new more direct routes to Western Canada. Long-distance moving was one of our special strengths until the 1970s.
The company’s growth continued in the 1950s as branches were established in Hamilton, Ottawa, Stratford, and Waterloo, Ontario. In the 1970s, Tippet-Richardson acquired Anderson Van & Storage in London, Ontario and King Moving & Storage in Calgary, Edmonton and Fort McMurray, Alberta. In the 1980s, the company expanded to include business records, special products and overseas relocations services. We opened an office in San Jose, California and T-R, Inc. was formed. In 1987, we purchased one of Canada’s oldest moving companies, Windsor Truck & Storage Company (1880).
In 2001, Tippet-Richardson opened a branch in Montreal, Quebec and acquired another historic Toronto-based company, Fisher Express Lines (1871). In 2006, John Novak purchased the company and changed the company name to Tippet-Richardson Limited.
